Cambridgeshire and Peterborough 2050 Shared Ambition

A new chapter for Cambridgeshire and Peterborough has been marked as we unveil the Shared Ambition—a clear, unifying vision guiding the region’s growth to 2050. The work represents a call to action, challenging us all to think beyond the present and to work together towards a brighter, more inclusive future for all.

In developing this work, Prior + Partners and our collaborators The Place Bureau supported the Combined Authority through an eight-month programme of engagement with councils, residents, businesses, and partners. With a tailored and iterative approach, new ways of working together across the region have been fostered, ways that have demonstrated an ability to come together and share joint exploration, validation and challenge.

Through this journey, a clear and evidenced understanding of place emerged, one that recognises Cambridgeshire and Peterborough for its distinctive set of global, national and local assets, but also as a region ready to face its challenges. Environmental issues such as flooding, water scarcity and climatic events, social inequalities marked by disparities in income, employment, and health, as well as connectivity challenges associated to public transport and underserved rural and suburban areas.

The Shared Ambition sets out what is needed to draw on these strengths, overcome the challenges, and succeed in working towards the future, which is
presented across four Outcomes: Equitable, Pioneering, Connected and Resilient. Under each outcome, a series of commitments are made, all anchored by three key values: Igniting Innovation, Embracing Diversity, and Championing Collaboration.

The intention now is for local and nationally elected representatives, public sector bodies and place leaders to utilise the Share Ambition to unite and support a common direction in shaping future plans, including how and what is delivered.

In developing the Shared Ambition, we’ve shown that this was more than just a process—it has been a catalyst for how partners now work together. This journey has set a new benchmark for partnership and collaboration, serving as a springboard for continued joint working across Cambridgeshire and Peterborough, extending beyond the Shared Ambition. Partners across the region are re-energised and excited to continue working together, building on the momentum that has been created.
